The ongoing marital saga involving popular cleric Pastor Chris Okafor has intensified, with his ex-wife, Agnes Bessem Okafor, publicly responding to his recent emotional appearance. In a lengthy video, Bessem introduced herself as the woman who married Chris Okafor at the age of 18, unequivocally stating that their union was both traditional and legal, producing four children. She vehemently denied ever being a “side partner,” asserting that witnesses to their wedding are still alive.
Bessem claimed it was she who ultimately walked away from the marriage, citing what she described as his unacceptable lifestyle and conduct, which she alleged brought shame to the church. She explained her 14-year silence, stating she felt compelled to speak now to counter what she called "lies and half-truths" in his recent public statements.
Among her serious allegations, Bessem accused the pastor of long-term deception, claiming she discovered he had been previously married—a fact she alleged he had hidden from her. This discovery, she stated, left her devastated and feeling deceived in her youth and vulnerability.
Furthermore, Bessem detailed a history of alleged abuse and assault throughout their marriage, asserting she possesses medical reports to substantiate these claims. She vividly recounted the day she finally left, stating she was physically attacked and had to flee through a back gate.
Her allegations also extended to infidelity, with Bessem claiming Okafor impregnated multiple women, some of whom she identified as members of his church, during their marriage. She further alleged that after her departure, one of these women moved into their home and assumed care of their children.
This public counter-response has ignited fresh debate and reactions across social media platforms, adding another complex layer to the unfolding narrative.
