In what appears to be a jab at her former royal life, Meghan Markle has revealed a "silly" rule she had to follow "all the time" while serving as a working member of the British Royal family.

In a candid chat on The Circuit podcast, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, claimed that she felt “inauthentic” while on duty due to the restrictive clothing she was expected to wear.

She particularly expressed her disdain for having to wear nude tights.

She recalled that during her time with the Royal family, she “couldn’t be as vocal” when she was forced to adhere to royal customs.

During the podcast, host Emily Chang quizzed Meghan over how she balances her authenticity on her Netflix show with her status of being a Duchess, to which Meghan laughed and explained how she is more herself now than ever.

Meghan said: “It was different several years ago where I couldn’t be as vocal and I had to wear nude pantyhose all the time.

“I hadn't seen pantyhose since movies in the 80s when they came in the little egg. That felt a little bit inauthentic. And that's a silly example, but right now I don’t feel I need to prove anything.”

Further explaining, she said: “It is an example of when you’re able to dress the way you want to dress, and you’re able to say the things that are true, and you’re able to show up in a space really organically and authentically, that’s being comfortable in your own skin.”

Meghan has long talked about how her fashion choices were stifled while she was a working royal, revealing in the 2022 documentary series Harry & Meghan that the colour of her outfits during her time in the Firm was very intentional.

In the explosive tell-all docuseries, Meghan explained that she often wore muted tones while on official royal engagements as to not overshadow more senior royals.

"Most of the time that I was in the UK, I rarely wore colour. There was thought in that," Meghan said during the third episode of her and Prince Harry's Netflix docuseries. "To my understanding, you can't ever wear the same colour as Her Majesty if there's a group event. But then you also shouldn't be wearing the same colour as one of the other more senior members of the family."

She went on to say, "So I was like, 'Well, what's a colour that they'll probably never wear?' Camel, beige, white... so I wore a lot of muted tones, but it was also so I could just blend in. I'm not trying to stand out here. There was no version of me joining this family and me not doing everything I could to fit in. I don't want to embarrass the family."
