Former police constable and two accomplices arrested in Bauchi for robbery and illegal possession of firearm. Pictures.

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a dismissed police constable, Muhammed Jawat, and two other suspects for alleged shop breaking, robbery and unlawful possession of firearm.
 
 
Spokesperson of the command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, May 22, 2023, said the suspects were arrested following a series of operations in blackspots and criminal hideouts.
 
 
According to the PPRO, the suspects conspired with three others now at large and launched robbery attacks on some provision shops situated at Itas-Gadau LGA.  
 
“On 25/04/2023 at about 1630hrs detectives attached to Jamaare Divisional Police Headquarters acted on credible intelligence and arrested three suspects namely; Muhammed Ahmed m aged 27yrs of Kofar Dumi, Bauchi metropolis, Hussaini Ahmad m aged 19yrs of Itas-Gadau LGA, and Muhammed Jawat ‘m’ aged 27yrs a dismissed Police (constable) of Tulu village Toro LGA,” the statement read.
 
 
"That on the 21/04/2023 at about 1230hrs information received from a good Samaritan in Jamaare LGA that they are suspecting two male passengers in the motor pack situated at Bakin Tasha Jamaare LGA. On receiving the report, a team of detectives were drafted to the motor pack and arrested the aforementioned suspects.
 
"During interrogation and search, one locally made revolver pistol and two empty shells were found in their possession which they can't give a satisfactory account of the prohibited firearm.
 
"Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects criminally conspired with three (3) others now at large planned to launche robbery attacks on some provision shops situated at Itas-Gadau LGA with the assistance of an informer within the town.
 
“Subsequently, during the robbery process, the watchman of the shops was walking around (sentry) and flashed the armed robbers. Thereafter the suspected armed robbers took to their heels to Jamaare LGA where they are trying to charter a bus to Bauchi, and they were intercepted and arrested by the Police detectives,” 
 
 
Exhibits recovered from the suspects include, one locally made revolver pistol, two empty shells and set of bandages.
 
 
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime committed and are assisting the Police with useful information, after which they will be charged to court for prosecution.
