30-year-old man who k!lled girlfriend during heated argument over allegations of who infected the other with HIV confesses
Emmanuel Okpara, the 30-year-old man who allegedly k!lled his girlfriend, Chinyere, in Enugu State on September 19, has confessed to the crime.
In a video recording, Emmanuel said he met Chinenye on Facebook in 2023. He claimed he was in Nekede, Imo State, when they met, but that he later relocated to Enugu State in December 2025 while she was serving in Port Harcourt. He said upon her return to Enugu in March 2026, they met and then began a relationship.
He said Chinenye, who had just finished NYSC, visited him. While they were together, he said he told her that he could cure anyone with Sexu@lly Transmitted Diseases like Hepatitis, HIV, and syphilis.
He claimed that Chinenye immediately charged up, accusing him of being the one who infected her with HIV. He said an argument ensued, which escalated into a fight that led her to use a pistol to hit him. He claimed he took the pistol from her and then used it to hit her on the head, which led to her collapsing. He said he then proceeded to use a machete to cut off her wrist and inflict a deep cut on her head and neck. He alleged that he was under the influence of hard drugs when he carried out the crime.
Emmanuel took her body, wrapped it in a nylon, and stayed indoors with it. According to him, he was in deep fear of what to do. The stench emanating from his room led neighbors to break into his apartment three days later, where they met him and the decomposing body of the deceased.
The suspect went on to damage Chinenye's phone so no one could reach her.
